I remember my first ever in-game Minecraft night; I was scared and under prepared. I put all my focuses in the wrong places because I wasn't sure what to prioritize in survival mode. Over the years, I have figured out a system that works well for me to make surviving the first night an ease. I created a new world to show you how I navigate night one. Let's get started. Step One - Explore Spawn

I spawned near mountains, plains, and ice biomes! I was surprised by the diversity, but made my way to the plains because I find it easy to survive at first. I explore spawn for a few reasons; to make sure I like the initial look of the world seed and to access essential resources. You don't want to spend much time exploring spawn because you'll need to get to work soon. Step Two - Gather Essentials

Sheep are almost always the first thing I look for when searching for essentials. Since I was in a plains biome it was pretty easy to spot a herd! Sheep are a great source of wool and food to help you get through the first couple of days. Next you'll want to cut down at least one tree to give you some wood to start. Creating a bed is important for staying safe through the night. A bed can be made with 3 wool and 3 wood planks. The meat from the sheep can be cooked on a campfire or furnace! If there is no day time left by the time I create the bed, I plop it down anywhere I can and try to sleep before the monsters have a chance to spawn. Step Three - Quick Shelter

My first shelter is never very pretty, its usually made up of dirt that I dig up and use to form a four walls around a bed, chest, furnace, and crafting table. The goal of your quick first shelter is to be temporary, easy to remove if you want to, and fast to put together with whatever materials are near by. A roof is not necessary, especially if you get to sleep before night begins! Following these three steps has made the first night a breeze for me and hopefully it will you too! Have anything to add?
