You've built your shelter, but you've gone through your starting food and now you are realizing you are out of food and have no nearby sources - or so you think. On the second day of starting a new survival world, I spend time preparing and gathering different food resources. Since crops take a while to get started, here are some food sources you can find in the meanwhile!
1. Apples

Oak trees aren't just a good source of wood, they are a source of food too! Chopping down as many oak trees and you can bare will not only provide you with oak logs, but when the leaves decay they have a 0.5% of dropping apples each. I usually am able to gather 2-3 apples per tree. Making an ax will help make this fast. 2. Hunt
Animals spawn all over Minecraft worlds. You can hunt pigs, sheep, cows, and chickens to find a source of meat. Some animals will also drop other items! The meat can be cooked on a campfire or a furnace. To build a campfire you'll need 3 sticks, 3 logs, and a piece of coal or charcoal. To build a furnace you'll need 8 pieces of cobblestone and a fuel source. There are many different fuel sources in Minecraft including coal or charcoal, any wood, dried kelp, and even lava buckets! 3. Fish
If you are closer to an ocean or body of water, it might be easier to fish. To make a fishing rod, you need string and sticks. You can get string to create a fishing rod by killing spiders or collecting cob webs. Don't have any string? No problem! You can use your hands or any tool to hit collect fish. Now you should have a full belly and you can get ready to start creating your own village!
